Master thesis computational mechanics – numerical optimization of structural components in power tools (m/f/d)

We are looking for a highly motivated Master's student (m/f/d) to further develop and implement numerical methods of structural mechanics in our development process. Work with us to create the basis for the development of innovative components with high technical value.

What does the role involve?
With your master thesis you support the development in the implementation of numerical optimization methods based on FEM in the product development cycle. You will investigate possibilities to structurally optimize components (e.g. by topology optimization) which are exposed to dynamic loads in order to meet our high requirements. In addition to the research of already proven methods, the focus will be on the analysis of different software solutions for a defined problem. You will develop techniques to optimize Hilti components to the required target values while respecting specified boundary conditions. By transferring the results back to a CAD program and analyzing them using FE programs, you will be able to verify the procedure before they are validated in a test. On the basis of your comparison and documentation of the various approaches, the procedure is expected to support future development processes.

What you need is:
- Enrolled in a master’s program of mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study Focus on technical mechanics and computational engineering
- Knowledge in the application of commercial solvers and preprocessors
- First experiences with numerical component optimization, e.g. topology optimization are advantageous
- Strong analytical skills
- Structured and independent way of working as well as distinct team orientation and strong communication skills
